Truly excellent care is built on connection — having the time and space to understand the root of a patient’s symptoms, arrive at the right diagnosis, and discuss treatment options as informed partners.

Her Story

Medicine was always where she belonged.

Dr. Nelson grew up surrounded by medicine — her father was a veterinarian, and she spent her childhood drawn to science, anatomy, and how things work. Then in her 20s, she found a family doctor who changed everything. Dr. Nattiv truly listened, connected with her patients, and partnered with them toward common goals. Shadowing her made it clear: medicine was where she belonged.

She chose family medicine because it let her do everything — women's health, obstetrics, pediatrics, orthopedics, dermatology. It's the one specialty that draws from all the others and applies that care to the whole family.

Dr. Nelson feels privileged to have delivered babies at Swedish Edmonds Hospital for 20 years. This work provided a unique opportunity to develop and perfect truly multigenerational family care, and to lay a strong foundation for her commitment to women's and family health care. Now that she has moved on from her post on the Labor & Delivery unit, she has embraced a new commitment to women's midlife health and menopause medicine.

Caring for multiple generations is one of the deepest privileges of my career. Watching those children grow up, head off to college, and find their way in the world — and then bring their own families back to me — that's what family medicine is all about!

Dr. Nelson sought out additional training in menopause medicine and has been a Certified Menopause Practitioner since 2024. She feels menopause care is a severely underserved area and derives a lot of satisfaction helping women find their way through this challenging transition.

She has also traveled extensively and lived abroad in several countries — experiences that shaped her perspective on life and medicine and deepened her ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
At Trillium, Dr. Nelson has built the practice she always envisioned: a true medical home where patients are known, not rushed, and care is built on a real relationship.

HER APPROACH

Evidence-based medicine, human-centered care.

Dr. Nelson's training is rooted in clinical trials, scientific data to better understand why symptoms arise, and proven treatment protocols. That said, she knows not every effective approach has a large clinical trial behind it. She incorporates traditional and alternative methods where appropriate — woven into a practice firmly grounded in science.

  • Takes time to review recent and distant history before addressing symptoms

  • Explains complex medical information in plain language, meeting patients where they are

  • Partners with patients as informed decision-makers, not passive recipients

  • Tracks context and detail over time to better understand where symptoms arise

  • More casual and friendly than many physicians — connects personally before diving into the problem

"I believe in and thrive when collaborating with patients to better understand their symptoms and optimize their wellness."

DR. NELSON’S CARE PHILOSOPHY

OUTSIDE THE CLINIC

Rooted in Community.
Always in motion.

Dr. Nelson and her husband have raised their two sons in the Edmonds/Shoreline community — and the community is woven into who she is. She's happiest in motion and good company.

She has traveled extensively and lived abroad in several countries, experiences that changed her perspective on life and deepened her connection to people from all walks of life. She brings that same curiosity and empathy into every patient relationship.

She is devoted to her own fitness practice, and she brings that same commitment to helping her patients build active, sustainable lives.
